Here are some tips for helping you to hit the golf ball straighter off the tee:
A Good Setup
Good setup is the basis of your swing. Setting up consistently is very important as it will have an influence on your entire golf game . Set your feet shoulder width apart, so you feel comfortable and stable.
Golf ball positioning is part of the setup as well. Be sure the ball is an inch or two forward of the center of your stance.
Club To Ground Relationship
Swing under the ball when hitting all golf shots . You should take a divot with all clubs, fairway woods and irons. It is most important to get under the ball, don’t worry about the divot you make. What you want is for the bottom of the golf club to contact the ground underneath the ball. Doing this correctly will allow two things to happen , your ball will fly up into the air and, you will contact the center of your club face for best distance.
The Back Swing
Your backswing sets up your shot. Besides not rushing the back swing, there are several things you need to remember when you swing the club back:
- Your golf club should be parallel with the ground when it’s at waist level.
- Once your arm is parallel you begin to swing with the shoulders to complete the backswing.
- You should be balanced at each step of the back swing.
As your front arm becomes parallel with the ground your golf club should be straight up in the air.
Keep Swing Level And Smooth
When your shoulders are set with leading shoulder underneath your chin, it is then a simple releasing process. Keep your grip firm to hold the golf club face in alignment and do not rush. The club head must accelerate through the ball, but avoid being jerky. Use the advantage of momentum, not brute force, and let the golf club come around on its own.
Your body is just a part of the total swing mechanism and provides a stable basis for the club. Practicing in this manner will create accurate, long drives.
