6 Steps To The Right Golf Carry Bag

Golf carry bags are lightweight and very practical . The problem today is there are so many choices to make when it comes to design and extras . For many golfers the first check will be the price tag , but once you know your range then you need to look at the other features on offer .

Simply follow these 6 steps and you will get the right golf bag for you:

1. Check the weight – This varies a lot, some bags are as light as 3-4 lbs, but beware, some are really heavy. A round of golf is a long time to carry your clubs so make sure you don’t choose a golf bag that is going to weigh you down .

2. Stability – A lot of carry bags now come with an attached stand . This will obviously add some weight , but it is a great feature to have as it makes it a lot easier to get at your golf clubs and pockets. The stability of the stand is important when you put the bag down . The triangle defined must be wide for stability as a bag can easily be knocked over in bad conditions.

3. Club StorageGolf carry bags are traditionally smaller than trolley golf bags . It can be easy for your golf clubs to get mixed together when trying to put them in or get them out of the bag . You should have at least 4-5 dividers where at least 2 of them are full length dividers to prevent this happening .

4. Carry Straps - The majority of carry bags now will come with dual straps which is a definite requirement to keep you in balance while you are carrying . The things you need to make sure is present are easily adjustable straps so you are not having to to fiddle about while playing to alter them.

5. Storage Pockets – It is important to have enough storage pockets to avoid packing everything into one or two pockets and making them too bulky and difficult to carry. Pockets you need to look for are:

  • Small pocket for you valuables – best if it is waterproof
  • Large pocket for storage of waterproofs, jumpers etc .
  • Drink pocket – this needs to be easily accessible and ideally insulated
  • Handy accessible pocket for storing your golf balls and tees
  • someplace to keep your scorecard

6. Extras – Other items worth having are:

  • Rain Hood that is simply put on while playing
  • A hook or similar to attach a towel to
  • Umbrella storage
  • Padding where the golf bag hits your body, particularly the lower back area

When you have decided on a golf carry bag design that fits all your requirements you then simply have to decide on color, do you want to stand out from the crowd or blend in?
